The Creative Designer works as part of an agile in-house creative studio. The role involves graphic design, video editing, motion graphics, and digital content production, including the design of HS2’s main corporate publications. It is a junior to midweight role which supports HS2’s communications activity across a range of channels, from events to digital, requiring a strong understanding of branding and visual storytelling.
About the role:
Directly undertaking artworking, graphic design, basic video editing and motion graphics production. This work is for both online and offline application, ranging from the design of web and social media assets to the design of corporate publications and event collateral.
- Supporting in-house brand development and conceptual campaign work by visualising new ideas and bringing creative briefs to life.
- Acting as a brand guardian by providing advice, guidance and support for external HS2 suppliers and delivery partners developing creative content – in accordance with HS2 brand guidelines. This includes giving verbal direction, reviewing others’ work, creating toolkits and templates, and delivering training sessions where required.
- Supporting the management of external creative agencies on specific visual design projects, where required.
- Supporting creative idea generation and innovation, as part of the wider marketing communications team.
- Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders across different departments to facilitate their creative projects and ensure on-brand delivery. This includes helping to translate complex or early requests into clear and professional creative briefs.
- Liaising with the HS2 Print Production and Logistics team over requirements for print-ready artwork, to ensure deadlines are met and deliverables achieved successfully.
- Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
About You:
Skills:
- Design and art working skills across print and digital channels, including the production of corporate publications.
- Expertise in the associated professional design and creative software (including Adobe Creative Suite).
- Basic video editing skills.
- Ability to do own motion graphics is desirable.
- Ability to brief, assess and direct digital design, photography, film and other digital media.
• Brand development skills including logo design and brand guidelines production. • Supplier management skills.
- Workflow management, inclduing the ability to organise and manage complex projects and production schedules to strict timelines and demanding targets/objectives.
- Internal stakeholder engagement skills – including the ability to understand and influence others.
- Ability to manage competing priorities.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge and understanding of creative processes.
- Knowledge and understanding of design media.
- Knowledge and understanding of design and multimedia software.
Type of experience:
- Experience of undertaking graphic design/artworking preferably both agency [1] side and client-side for a large and complex organisation.
- Experience of complex project management and production schedules, delivering a high volume of high-quality creative work across all print and digital channels, to demanding timescales and budgets.
- Experience of design management and commissioning the full range of graphic design, art working, photography, film services and digital design services from external providers.
- Experience of interpreting complex client requests into successful creative briefs.
- Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience of relationship management and conflict resolution between stakeholders and suppliers.
- Experience of working to Plain English principles and within public sector accessibility standards.
