About The Role
The People Team operates as a strategic partner to the business and serves all prospective, present, and past employees. At Pelago, our People Team builds processes and functions from the ground-up, partnering with every function of the business to enable our people to break down barriers, achieve their full potential, and impact lives for the better.
Reporting to the Director, HR, and in partnership across the People Team, this role will provide strategic and tactical support to our People team in our goals to engage, retain and grow top talent, balancing employee support with operational excellence. The ideal candidate has a strong HR Generalist and employee support background, ensuring an exceptional employee experience across all stages of the employee lifecycle.
This is a hybrid role, requiring in-office presence on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week for team collaboration and in-office lunches at our NYC HQ.
In This Role You Will
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries, providing thoughtful guidance and support on a range of topics; address matters within the scope of the role and escalate complex or sensitive issues to the appropriate resources
- Work closely with managers and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, navigate challenges, and increase productivity and retention
- Own and streamline processes to ensure seamless employee lifecycle transitions, including orientation, benefits and policy explanations, background checks, I-9 verification, employment verifications, IT vendor coordination, distributing company swag, conducting exit interviews, and managing unemployment claims
- Support the execution and administration of HR programs, including benefits, payroll, performance reviews, employee leaves, vendor management, and compliance training, ensuring smooth operations and compliance
- Contribute to or lead impactful initiatives in areas like employee engagement, learning & development, performance management, total rewards and recognition, company events, and internal communications
- Develop, update, and enforce HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and labor postings to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
- Manage and update the HRIS (HiBob) with all organizational and employee data changes, ensuring accuracy and reliability for reporting and analytics
- Generate HR reports, analytics, and metrics to support data-driven decisions and strategic initiatives
The Background We Are Looking For - 3+ years of years of demonstrated success in an HR support/HR generalist capacity
- Relevant experience with comprehensive HR delivery, Employee Support, HR Operations, Benefits administration, Recruitment, HR-Tech, US Employment Law and Compliance
- Persistent and resourceful problem solver with project management and documentation skills
- Proactive self-starter with a talent for navigating ambiguity and a strong ability to create structure and processes that bring clarity and efficiency to uncertain situations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across business disciplines, geographies, and cultural differences to build trust and effectively manage internal communications across various contexts
- As a member of a lean but mighty HR team, able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, work independently, multi-task, and drive initiatives to closure

The provided range reflects our US target salary range for this full-time position, which is part of our broader total compensation package, including stock options, comprehensive benefits, and incentive pay applicable to eligible roles. Individual pay within the range will vary based on a variety of factors like role-related experience and education, internal pay equity, and other relevant business factors. At Pelago, we are committed to an equitable and fair pay philosophy and review total compensation for our employees at least twice a year.
