Job Title: Email Marketing Manager (mat cover)

The Email Marketing Manager (mat cover) will be responsible for developing and implementing Great Run’s email communication strategy. Working collaboratively with colleagues in marketing, operations, customer services and commercial teams, to create clear and consistent campaigns aligned to the business’s brand and strategic priorities.
They will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Email Service Provider (Emarsys) ensuring seamless integration with GRCs Martech platform (Horizon), with a focus on introducing email automation, customer journey enhancements, identifying email campaign efficiencies, and driving improvements and growth across key email reporting metrics.
Email marketing is one of the key drivers of entry sales and therefore the role of Email Marketing Manager is key to the success of the business. This role provides an opportunity for the right candidate to drive success through innovative strategies, creative thinking, and attention to detail.
Key responsibilities:
· Develop and deliver a clear ecomms strategy aligned to marketing department objectives to improve
engagement, drive additional traffic and increase conversions through email communications.
· Identify clear retention and engagement strategies for the two main audiences (prospects and current entrants),
implementing tactics to achieve desired and agreed objectives
· Work with the Marketing Director and Adventure Brand Manager to design and deliver email marketing plans for
all Great Run & Adventure events, encompassing prospecting emails to drive event entries, and service emails at
agreed intervals to share key customer information
· Ongoing liaison with the customer services dept. to understand frequency of incoming customer queries and
‘hot topics’, with the objective of designing service emails that include key event information that reduces
incoming customer queries
· Work closely with Commercial dept. to ensure sponsor and partner email rights are delivered in-line with
expectations and agreed timescales
· Lead on all elements of ecomms reporting, tracking the progress and performance of all email marketing
campaigns, compiling monthly, mid-year and end-of-year reports, with a focus on creating and sharing
actionable insights that can be used to drive continue improvement in key email metrics
· Collaborate with Operations Dept, Project Management and Project Teams, ensuring all prospecting and service
emails include accurate information
· Develop an in-depth understanding of our Great Run and Adventure database, and undertake ongoing testing &
analysis to better understand key segments, driving improved engagement and conversions from emails
· Build and implement a full suite of automated email journeys using the new Emarsys platform, driving
efficiencies and increased web traffic and conversions
· Line manage and develop one direct report (Junior Marketing Executive), providing clear guidance on workflow,
requirements and objectives, conducting monthly catch-ups and performance reviews.
We are looking for someone with:
- At least 3 -5 years of experience in email, SMS, or related marketing roles, with a proven ability to plan and optimise campaigns.
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and workloads effectively.
- Ability to work across teams, share ideas, and drive improvements.
- Proficiency in tracking campaign performance, deriving insights, and tailoring strategies to drive engagement and conversions.
- Experience with email platforms (e.g., Emarsys), understanding of deliverability best practices, and knowledge of digital marketing principles.
- Empathy and creativity to meet client needs and deliver impactful solutions.
- A proactive attitude toward learning, improving processes, and adapting to new challenges.
