The role:
If you’re a college-leaver or recent graduate, this is a brilliant opportunity to get your career in technology off to a flying start. We’re looking for enthusiastic, motivated, highly qualified and curious people to join a new team at a fast-growing insurtech. You’ll be working in an innovative, cloud-native environment for our connected insurance products. You’ll be exposed to the very best engineers, product designers and business teams, who’ll be working closely with you. They’ll show you all the elements of our technology, where you’ll learn rapidly and get the opportunity to specialise in the areas that excite you most. Let’s kickstart your future in tech.
You’re not expected to know everything or be an expert, but we want you to bring all your skills, appetite for learning, enthusiasm and willingness to tackle technical and business challenges – all helping you to learn many skills along the way. After your first year, you’ll have the opportunity to specialise, joining a seasoned team to further master your preferred skills.
You will conduct software testing in the role, including programming automation.
What you’ll be doing with your days:
- This team will define, design and lead the change within Ticker technology platform(s) that support our operational teams (this can include technical change and data change).
- You’ll be part of a team that is the first point of contact on releases, ensuring they’re well supported and can react to customer or internal needs.
- You’ll be responsible for the full end-to-end technology for a release as a first contact, whether that’s a data change using SQL or an AWS back-end change. This will give you exposure to the full code base.
- The technical responsibilities of the role include: ensuring alignment of the technology to the Head of Engineering’s plans and direction, providing sound technical design and integrating with other platforms/products where required, and keeping up with cybersecurity compliance and system stability.
- You’ll test software and change, ensuring technical understanding. This will sometimes involve working in a pair to both engineer and test.
- You’ll work on a backlog of change, estimating the backlog in advance based on how you feel about the work.
- You’ll help build and document business and technical understanding, in order to identify the potential impact of changes to Ticker and design an approach to solve complex problems.
- You’ll support and enable maintainable information to aid onboarding new squad members across the engineering organisation, working with tools such as Confluence, Github.
- You will work with an Agile Delivery Manager and/or Scrum Master to allow you to organise on a daily basis.
About you:
- You’ll have the desire to learn complex systems, including discovery and analysis, formulation of end-to-end technical processes, identification of solution alternatives and their assessment, and communicating well with your peers
- You’ll have a strong interest in and desire to work on technology and engineering, including but not limited to mobile, cloud and data technologies, and deployment; you’re a problem-solver, not an expert in all technology
- You’ll have the ability to think, act, operate and implement change tactically when required, dealing effectively with ambiguity and managing an urgent need to respond to a technical support issue
- You’ll have the ability to gain confidence in the business and colleagues through excellent communication and influencing skills
- You need strong collaboration skills, with a blend of technical and business emphasis, as you'll have to interact professionally within your team and with peers in technology and the business
- You are keen to actively acquire new knowledge and skills and champion new methods and processes to improve the performance of our software
Technology skills you will be exposed to and have a grasp of:
We’d love you to pick up, learn and become a master of some of the skills below, but also to find your own preference based on what you enjoy:
- Amazon (AWS) technology – particularly serverless technologies
- Data technology and processing using languages like SQL or Python
- Integration technology (including messaging, integration and API development)
- App and web development, considering either Android or Apple iOS
- Learn software configuration and be able to manage and support change
- Exposure to data science, model support and, where applicable, enhancements
How you’ll work:
You’ll be a part of a new team of likeminded, exceptional and capable new people working in advanced agile processes and principles, all geared to your development.
- You’ll work in a squad focused on managing and supporting the technical solutions across all the above, giving you exposure to all Ticker technology
- You’ll operate in a daily cadence, ensuring all meetings are productive, coordinated and support day-to-day squad deliverables with Ticker leads to support you
- You’ll be responsible for technical change impact and immediate needs, exposing you to Product Owners who manage the value and impact to Ticker growth
- You’ll support the wellbeing, health and awareness of all team members as the utmost priority
- You’ll lead in and support the establishment of quality solutions: maintaining the availability of high software quality to our customers, agreeing technical debt where relevant and challenging the Product Owner
- You’ll encourage and drive cross-skilled adoption of technical languages/domains
- You’ll design, build and ship software change, ensuring your solutions are engineered to standards, and support critical change needed in our production systems
- You will be a champion of Ticker values
