Key responsibilities
Role Purpose:
To oversee the Paid Search activity for Marketplace so that customers are presented with the best possible experience. This role is responsible for the strategy, KPI setting and budget phasing of Marketplace. The focus of this role is to deliver paid search performance improvements, ensuring Marketplace drives the best return on investment and supports ambitious growth targets.
Role Objectives:
- Define the Marketplace Paid Search strategies, budget phasing and KPIs.
- Directly own the relationship with key Marketplace senior stakeholders, creating a partnership to enable you to influencing them about opportunities and educating them on the impact of paid search for Marketplace.
- Manage a budget of c. £16m to ensure the continued growth of Marketplace.
- Responsible for the performance of campaigns, bid management, and optimisation for the agreed KPIs for Marketplace.
- Identify opportunities for expansion of the account and optimisation efficiencies.
- Develop the Seller Funded campaign offering, and manage seller funded campaigns on an ongoing basis.
- Educate the business on our approach to PPC and how we can work together to maximise success.
- Work with the CRM data and agency partners to develop a sophisticated audience approach to paid search.
- Work with Group Tagging teams to troubleshoot tagging issues and implement new tracking when required.
- Create a testing roadmap and use the learnings to continually improve paid search performance, as well as sharing insights with wider marketing channels.
- Support new seller launches.
- Own a relationship with Google to ensure we are utilising the best possible optimisations and opportunities such as betas.
- Managing Marketplace Account Manager requests for data and insights
- Executing a wider Marketplace promotions strategy including forecasts, promo planning, feed labelling and PIRs.
- Fully own analysis and reporting on performance of Marketplace paid search to key stakeholders.
- Identify trends and opportunities in data and understand how best to optimise them or use them to inform and influence the wider business.
- Own the testing roadmap for Marketplace, ensuring all activity falls in line with the larger performance media strategy and integrated marketing plan.
- Conduct competitor research with tools such as SimilarWeb and Google data, using the insights to drive the Marketplace paid search strategy.
- Provide response to briefs, PIRs, and data insights to the Go To Market and Analytics teams.
- Work closely with other Performance Media channel owners such as Programmatic, Remarketing, Affiliates, and SEO.
- Paid search forecasting, planning and budgeting.
- Own monthly POs and invoicing for Marketplace.
- Uphold a thorough understanding of paid search best practice and latest developments, through self driven industry reading and learning, as well as through Google and our agency.
- Work closely with our agency partners, empowering them to drive the best possible results.
- Work closely with the B&Q 1P paid search specialists to share insights and learnings and ensure synergy in the 3P and 1P strategy.
Required skills & experience
Knowledge / Skills / Experience Required:
- Excellent understanding of key paid search best practice and functionalities such as bidding strategies.
- Self-motivated, agile and curious.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex and technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Able to develop strong relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and third-party suppliers to deliver the best possible outcomes.
- Strong attention to detail and results driven.
- Collaborative and proactive team player.
- Has a passion for the latest digital media trends and best practices.
- Has ecommerce (shopping) paid search experience.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to interpret and work towards achieving Return On Ad Spend (ROAS), profit, and revenue targets.
- Ability to analyse performance of PPC campaigns and make recommendations for their optimisation.
- Demonstrable experience in PPC in a multi-channel marketing context (stores and online).
- Proficient experience with paid search research tools (Similar Web, Google Trends, Google Clickshare Data etc).
- Experience of managing a significant ecommerce PPC account.
- Demonstrates commercial awareness and able to discuss cost of sales, margin and revenue with commercial colleagues.
- Highly analytical and data-driven with the ability to draw conclusions and recommendations.
- Strong knowledge of working with Microsoft Excel and the ability to manipulate and interpret data sets.

- Marketplace has a clear paid search strategy with constant testing and learning to identify opportunities to further improve performance.
- Opportunities and insights are identified and communicated to the wider team and relevant stakeholders.
- The Marketplace account is well optimised, and you are consistently working towards or exceeding KPIs.
- You're doing consistent, data driven testing to find new ways to improve performance.
- Performance issues are quickly identified, understood and resolved, with the impact communicated clearly to the relevant stakeholders.
- Promotions, new seller launches, and trading events are fully supported.
- Strong stakeholder relationships.
- You drive your own personal development, constantly seeking to improve your knowledge and understanding.
