Job Purpose
To enhance the global presentation and storytelling of the University’s brand and narrative through impactful content.
To create and publish inspiring content (text, imagery and video) which will be used across paid, earned, shared and owned channels including website, publications, news releases, emails and social media platforms to promote and enhance the global reputation and profile of the University, with key external audiences to:
- Promote and enhance the global reputation of the University.
- Showcase the world-changing activities of the University and its positive impact on society
- Help the University speak with one clear, open and transparent voice.
You will work closely with all teams across Marketing and Communications, as well as the University’s inhouse photographers and our chosen video provider to develop and repurpose content in line with the University’s brand management, content and publishing approach.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Use detailed knowledge, professional judgement and demonstrable experience to lead on commissioning, composing and producing relevant content for University digital and print channels that will advance the institution’s strategic priorities in line with its Strategic Plan, for key audiences across multiple platforms. This will include sourcing, researching, interpreting and drafting relevant material, co-ordinating the presentation of the content and publishing on multiple platforms.
2. Establish connections and collaborate on content development with inhouse teams and external professionals including, where appropriate, writers, designers, photographers, proof readers and audio-visual professionals to deliver content across multiple platforms.
3. Develop key messaging and narratives for our own and shared platforms using available data and insight to inform approach.
4. Deliver fresh, engaging copy that connects with a desired audience for use in website, publications, news releases, emails and social media platforms.
5. Be adept at varying the voice, style and other characteristics of messaging based on the target audience, working within appropriate style guidelines and brand voice.
6. Commission strong design, photography and video, working within the University’s brand guidelines for use in multiple platforms.
7. Identify, source and engage with storytellers across our community who can provide impactful content.
8. Write original copy and edit content for a range of marketing and communications platforms.
9. Contribute to the University’s Marketing & Communications Forum by sharing content expertise and approaches though the delivery of workshops and sessions for colleagues.
10. Time-manage multiple projects and keep stakeholders updated on progress.
11. Understand and work within agreed budgets and procurement guidelines.
12. Understand and work within the regulatory frameworks appropriate to publishing in HE.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar or related role(s). Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Detailed practical knowledge, skills and understanding of producing engaging content.
A3 Knowledge and understanding of usability and accessibility guidelines, particularly in relation to the Disabilities Discrimination Act.
A4 Knowledge and understanding of copyright regulations and data protection legislation with regard to publishing.
Desirable:
B1 Detailed practical knowledge of user testing and statistical analysis.
B2 Educated, in an appropriate subject, and with work experience in a relevant area.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Proven ability to create engaging content for a variety of channels, and of the specialist requirements of these channels, with professional copywriting experience with solid
portfolio of work.
C2 Excellent attention to detail and the ability to proof-read for grammar, spelling and punctuation with a high degree of accuracy.
C3 Proven ability to present and organise content in an accessible and usable way.
C4 Excellent IT skills, using the Office 365 suite and CMS systems.
C5 The ability to prioritise work based on both the needs of users, whilst bearing in mind key strategic priorities.
C6 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Using initiative and judgement to assess operational issues and the ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities.
C7 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
C8 Good interpersonal skills are required negotiating and influencing with an ability to work across teams, working directly with end users and project stakeholders.
C9 Team player with the ability to proactively initiate, build and maintain strong working relationships at all levels of the University.
Desirable:
D1 Proven ability to create copy in line with a corporate style guide.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Demonstrable experience in a similar role or ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar or related role(s).
E2 Publishing experience in a marketing context.
E3 Experience in creating content for a variety of channels.
E4 Experience of commissioning and managing external suppliers
Desirable:
F1 Familiarity with the University’s key marketing messages, and its key strategic priorities,
F2 Familiarity with the University’s structures and organisation.
F3 Familiarity with the University’s standard style guides.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £40,247 - £45,163 per annum pro rata.
This post is part-time (28 hours per week), and open ended.
