The Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) is looking for a Communications and Marketing Officer to join our team and help us connect with our global network of members, followers, and the wider underwater technology community.
About Us
The SUT is a multidisciplinary learned society that brings together individuals and organisations from academia, government, and industry to advance the understanding and development of underwater technology.
The Role
As Communications and Marketing Officer, you will oversee the SUT’s communications and marketing activities, bringing fresh energy and ideas to our content. You’ll take the lead in managing our social media platforms, email campaigns, and digital marketing efforts to engage our members, promote events, and share the latest developments in marine science and technology.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management:
- Manage and grow our presence on LinkedIn and other social media platforms.
- Create engaging posts about SUT events, training courses, awards, news, and highlights of relevant updates in the marine and subsea world.
- Showcase new issues of SUT’s Big Blue World and other relevant content.
Communications Calendar:
- Work with the Events Officer to plan, manage, and oversee the SUT’s communications calendar to ensure timely and consistent outreach.
Email Campaigns:
- Use ‘Constant Contact’ to design and deliver email campaigns, including forthcoming events, SUT news, calls for content for Big Blue World, barter agreements for conferences and exhibitions, and more.
Content Creation:
- Develop high-quality written content for social media posts and email communication.
- Ensure all content adheres to SUT’s branding and tone of voice.
Analytics and Reporting:
- Monitor and analyse the performance of communications and marketing activities using tools like Google Analytics and social media insights.
- Provide regular reports on engagement and campaign effectiveness to inform future strategies.
Subsea Industry Relations:
- Build and maintain relationships with subsea industry contemporaries, as well as share discounts for SUT training courses with similar organisations to maximise coverage of SUT’s activities.
Event Promotion:
- Support the promotion of SUT events, such as conferences, webinars, and training courses, through targeted campaigns and collaborations.
Membership Engagement:
- Develop strategies to engage current members and attract new members.
- Highlight the benefits of SUT membership and encourage participation in SUT activities.
Innovation:
- Bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to enhance SUT’s marketing and communications output.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in digital marketing and communications.
Industry Events:
- You may be requested to attend one or two UK industry exhibitions during the year to support the SUT team.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and creative individual who is:
- Eloquent: Able to craft engaging and professional content for a variety of audiences.
- Organised: Skilled at managing schedules, campaigns, and multiple communication channels.
- Creative: Experienced in creating eye-catching content for social media and email campaigns.
- Tech-Savvy: Familiar with mailing tools like Constant Contact (or similar platforms), and all social media platforms.
- Analytical: Comfortable analysing data to evaluate the success of campaigns.
- Experienced: Ideally with a background in communications, marketing, website administration, SEO, or media relations.
- Excellent command of English with exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Experience required – minimum 3 years in a similar role
