General Overview
As a Product Designer at FleetCheck, your primary focus is to deeply understand our users and translate their needs into beautiful, intuitive, and effective design solutions. You will work closely with our product and developer teams as a key part of our leadership group to drive the overall product vision, while also collaborating with marketing to ensure our insights and user needs are consistently aligned across all client touch points.
You will follow the vision and strategy set by the Product Manager, while taking an active role in defining the details of the product. This involves close collaboration with the Engineering Lead to ensure the designs are feasible and implemented effectively. You will help bring the product concepts to life, refining and iterating to meet user needs and business goals.
Responsibilities
User Research and Insights
- Take ownership of user research initiatives, planning, conducting, and synthesising findings from interviews, usability tests, and surveys.
- Utilise research insights to inform the design process, bringing clarity to the team around user needs, behaviours, and 'jobs to be done'.
- Work collaboratively with the marketing team to share insights from user research that can inform marketing strategies and messaging.
Product Leadership and Team Collaboration
- Partner closely with the Product Manager, Head of IT and Engineering Lead, forming the leadership core of the product team, to define product requirements, guide feature development, and align on the product vision.
- Follow the product vision and strategy established by the Product Manager, actively contributing to defining the specific features and details of the product in close partnership with engineers.
- Drive the end-to-end design process from concept to delivery, ensuring designs meet both user and business needs, while maintaining feasibility for our engineering team.
- Facilitate design critiques, collaborative sessions, and workshops with other stakeholders to generate innovative solutions.
Design Execution and Systems
- Lead the development and maintenance of FleetCheck's design system to ensure consistency and scalability across all digital products.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for web and mobile applications that are both functional and delightful to users.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure that designs are effectively translated into working products, providing support and adjustments as needed throughout the implementation process.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with marketing to ensure that brand and design language are unified across different communication channels.
- Collaborate on the development of client personas and journeys that can be utilised across both product and marketing efforts.
- Occasionally support the marketing team with updates to user journeys on the marketing website.
- In time, mentor junior designers, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their roles.
Experience & Skills
Minimum of 3 years in a product design role, ideally with experience in both web and mobile applications.
- Research Methodology: Proven ability to organise, conduct, and document user interviews, with a strong focus on both usability and understanding broader user 'jobs to be done'.
- Collaboration: Comfortable and experienced in working closely with product managers, engineering teams, and marketing teams to deliver cohesive experiences.
- Design Systems: Experience with creating and maintaining a design system that ensures consistency across multiple products.
- Communication: Strong ability to articulate design rationale and user research findings to various stakeholders, from engineers to executives.
- Figma: Proficiency in Figma for creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
Working Relationships
- Product Manager: Collaborate to ensure that user needs and business requirements are balanced, with shared responsibility for evaluating features that have the most significant user impact.
- Engineering Lead: Partner to ensure that designs are technically feasible and optimised for engineering implementation, with an ongoing feedback loop for improvements. Take an active role in defining the details of the product in collaboration with the Engineering Lead to ensure a cohesive development process.
- Marketing Team: Engage with the marketing team to align on user insights, ensuring that our understanding of users informs broader messaging, campaigns, and engagement strategies.

Rewards and additional information
- Base salary will be in the region of £40-45,000 pa,
- The normal contractual working week is 37.5 hours; a standard day is 7.5 hours.
- The work pattern is fixed hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm with 0.5 hour lunch break.
- The annual holiday entitlement based on the above working pattern is 25 days – rising to 28 days with length of service.
- One additional days holiday per month on a Friday (FleetCheck Friday), pro rata entitlement for part time employees.
- Contributory pension.
- Staff are able to work in a hybrid pattern with 3 specified days in the office each week, if agreed with their line manager.
