We have a fixed-term opportunity for an Email Marketing Manager who will manage the Institute's email marketing activity, including creating and sending emails from the central marketing team and scheduling and signing off emails created by other teams around the organisation.
Reporting to the Head of Digital Marketing, you will join a close-knit team of social media, SEO, email and analytics professionals, setting the direction of travel, and positioning our world-class content to ensure maximum visibility and engagement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Delivery
- Produce and send central marketing emails. This includes the Chatham House weekly email, a weekly dynamic email promoting research programme content, and solus promotional emails.
- Sign off on multiple emails produced by other teams weekly. This includes proofreading content, ensuring it is written according to House style and brand guidelines, all links are working, and the design is accurate.
- Email optimisation to ensure emails are produced and adhere to email marketing best practice in layout, tracking and formatting where necessary. Regular AB testing on subject lines and content ordering within the email to improve open/click rates.
- Manage the organisation’s email schedule ensuring emails are spaced out.
- Manage the email marketing platform (DotDigital), including segmentation and automation with the platform.
- Trouble-shoot any specific problems and highlight significant issues to management.
People
- Train colleagues to use the email marketing platform and provide support in any issues or questions they have producing or sending their emails.
- Build positive partnerships with other teams, assisting them in their email marketing plans.
- Work collaboratively with the CRM team and internal teams to improve data quality where appropriate.
- Work with the Head of Digital Marketing on new projects to optimise the email channel e.g. welcome emails for new subscribers, new email automation programmes etc.
- Act as the main point of contact for teams when scheduling and sending emails, ensuring that all steps in the email processes happen.
Strategy
- Marketing optimisation - Review Chatham House’s approach to email marketing and how it targets audiences effectively.
- Report on the performance of the email channel and individual emails. Provide insights and recommendations which improve performance.
- Produce recommendations for change using an evidence-based approach and see those improvements through to completion.
- Contribute to the delivery of the Chatham House EDI strategy.
Person Specification
Essential Skills And Experience
- Experience in managing email marketing systems (preferably DotDigital or Mailchimp).
- Solid experience in email marketing and familiarity with all aspects of the process including segmenting and targeting audiences effectively.
- Ability to interpret data and present insights and marketing performance to various partners and senior leadership.
- Experience introducing improvements in email marketing processes and systems.
- Solid understanding of the latest email technologies, legislation and best practice.
- Discretion in handling confidential information with an understanding of GDPR.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work logically and methodically.
- Project management experience with the ability to juggle conflicting priorities.
- Strong communication skills, able to communicate with people at all levels.
- A proactive approach to work with the ability to self-motivate and self-start.
- Collegiate, collaborative and consistent in approach.
- Ability to train colleagues and non-technical staff.
Desirable Skills And Experience
- CRM experience.
- Google Analytics experience.

Salary: £46,000 per year.
Contract: Full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract (with the potential to extend).
Location: Hybrid (Office/Home), minimum 2 days in the office per week.
