We are seeking a highly motivated self-driven and energetic individual to manage the fundraising activities of the Orthopaedic Institute Ltd. You will be responsible for all areas of fundraising and work alongside the Course Organiser.
The post holder will require an excellent knowledge of fundraising and managing a comprehensive workload with the required energy and enthusiasm to inspire excellent relationships through raising awareness of our charity. You will be target driven, proactive, a determined self-starter and thrive on working with a range of existing and new partners, encouraging them to choose the Orthopaedic Institute as their preferred charity.
Job Purpose/Description:
To raise funds for the Orthopaedic Institute Ltd, supporting basic science and clinical research at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, leading on ensuring sufficient funding for the sustainability of the charity and its core activities by maintaining and developing current relationships with funders as well as generating additional income to meet targets.
This will be achieved by identifying opportunities to raise funds and may include:
o Individual Giving
o Corporate fundraising
o Organising fundraising events
o Legacies
o Trusts, Grants and Foundations
o Community fundraising
o Major Donors
- Initiating and building relationships with prospective supporters via telephone, letter, email and face to face
- Prepare and submit high-quality bids to grant giving charities, trusts and foundations
- Work closely with all departments to acquire detailed project information for funding proposals
· Maintain the fundraising section on the Orthopaedic Institute website
· Maintain the fundraising database, recording donations, sponsorship and legacies received
· Investigate new methods of promoting the charity
· Handling cash and cheques received, issuing of receipts and letters of acknowledgement
· Attending cheque presentations and speaking on behalf of the Orthopaedic Institute at events
· Planning and organising of promotional events to raise awareness of the charity
· Recruiting volunteers to ensure the smooth running of events
· Designing and producing event information and advertising material including posters, programmes and registration forms
· Publicise events on the website, social media, local press and radio
· Source sponsorship for events
· Assist with accommodation and travel arrangements for events
· Provide acknowledgement to all sponsors and attendees following an event
· Arrange cheque presentations with maximum press coverage as appropriate
- Attend meetings and submit reports to the Orthopaedic Institute Trustees and Committee
- Attend the Research Panel Meetings
- Follow branding guidelines when producing reports, event material, promotional clothing and any other OIL related items or communications
- Maintain a library of suitable images for promotional material
· Responsible for design and production of the Annual Report
· Producing details of the fundraising activities and how to donate
· Liaising with all heads of departments to request their written contribution to the Annual Report (along with associated images)
· Obtain quotes for printing of the Annual Report for consideration by the Orthopaedic Institute Trustees
· Circulation of the annual report to the Institute Supporters, Charitable Organisations and consultants and to publish on Orthopaedic Institute website
Person Specification/Criteria
Essential:
Education / Qualifications
· Educated to degree level (or qualification of similar standing) OR with equivalent professional experience.
Experience
· Previous, proven fundraising experience
· A minimum of two years general office and/or administrative experience.
· Experience of working with third party fundraisers and volunteers similar.
· Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of excellent donor care and stewardship.
· Proven record of successful bid writing.
· Relevant experience of developing, organising, managing and evaluating events, preferably fundraising events.
· Data entry and accurate record keeping.
· Proven ability to undertake research to seek new prospective supporters.
· Proven marketing capability.
· Ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of supporters.
· Managing multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities in an efficient and effective way.
· Ability to work to deadlines.
Knowledge & Skills
· Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
· The ability to communicate and engage positively with colleagues at all levels, the public and other supporters.
· Report writing and presentation skills.
· Numerically and financially literate.
· Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable:
· Professional fundraising qualifications.
· Recent and relevant experience of working within a fundraising team.
· Working within the Fundraising Regulator’s Codes of Practice.
· Using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database, fundraising or otherwise, including the use of queries and reports.
· Experience of giving presentations and/or public speaking.
· Able to tell engaging stories to attract new supporters.
· Ability to write press releases for a variety of settings and audiences.
· Knowledge of the requirements of GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Other:
· Ability and willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends as required.
· Able to physically set up fundraising events when necessary.
· Ability to occasionally deal with distressing or emotional situations.
· Flexible approach to work and the needs of the Charity.
